OUR AIM

Supporting young people aged 17 to 25 from the Scottish Borders or Dumfries and Galloway regions to join projects, courses and expeditions in the UK and worldwide, providing an opportunity to broaden their horizons and develop their confidence. UK projects connected with environment ,wildlife and community endeavours will be welcome for consideration.

SSYAT would like to thank the Galashiels based company Mainetti (UK) Ltd which has very generously made a grant to one of our applicants for a year long project in China.  

The recipient from the Scottish Borders is teaching English in a High School where he will also learn Mandarin during his stay.   He deployed to China in August 2026  and will return in 12 months time. The project will also be a major opportunity for our candidate to meet new friends and colleagues whilst experiencing the culture and lifestyle of China and will allow them to develop personally and professionally giving them a firm base to begin their subsequent career on return. 

We are very grateful to Mainetti (UK) Ltd for their support of a young adult from the Scottish Borders.
